Asarum maximum ‘Ling Ling’
Panda Face Ginger
An extraordinary and highly sought-after woodland perennial from China, Asarum maximum ‘Ling Ling’ is prized for its dramatic silver-marbled foliage and uniquely patterned flowers that resemble the face of a panda. This rare selection forms dense clumps of glossy evergreen leaves, creating an elegant and exotic groundcover for shaded gardens and collector plantings.
In late winter to early spring, unusual black-and-white flowers emerge near the base of the plant, rewarding close observation with one of the most distinctive blooms found in the shade garden world. Slow-growing but highly ornamental, this species thrives in rich woodland soil with consistent moisture and protection from harsh afternoon sun.
An exceptional choice for collectors of unusual shade perennials, rare Asian woodland plants, and botanical curiosities.

Salvia divinorum
Diviner’s Sage
A rare and unusual member of the mint family, Salvia divinorum is a lush, shade-loving perennial native to the cloud forests of southern Mexico. It is characterized by large, soft green leaves with a distinctively textured surface and an upright, somewhat sprawling growth habit that thrives in humid, protected environments.
Unlike many ornamental salvias, this species prefers filtered light and consistently moist, rich soil conditions, making it well suited for greenhouse culture or shaded indoor growing spaces in cooler climates. When happy, it develops into a vigorous, leafy plant with a strong tropical presence.
An intriguing addition for collectors of rare salvias, ethnobotanical garden plants, and unusual shade-loving perennials.

Psychotria viridis
Chacruna
A rare and highly sought-after tropical shrub native to the Amazon basin, Psychotria viridis is admired for its lush emerald foliage, elegant growth habit, and deep ethnobotanical history among indigenous cultures of South America. This species thrives in warm, humid environments and makes an excellent collector plant for greenhouse growing, bright indoor conditions, or protected outdoor cultivation in frost-free climates.
My plants are propagated from healthy stock and carefully established in individual containers to encourage vigorous growth and strong root development. Young plants appreciate consistent moisture, high humidity, and protection from cold temperatures below 50°F.

Our mission
At Exotic Botanist, we believe in honoring the deep cultural and ecological connections that many of our plants represent. As part of our ongoing commitment to reciprocity and respect, a percentage of our monthly profits is donated to local community initiatives, land stewards, and educational projects that support sustainability, native ecology, and cultural heritage.
We’re proud to grow plants with purpose — and to give back to the communities that inspire and inform the world of ethnobotany.
For the month of September, Exotic Botanist is proud to support the Indigenous Reciprocity Initiative (IRI), a network of grassroots, Indigenous-led projects across the Americas. IRI empowers communities to protect their lands, preserve traditional plant knowledge, and build sustainable futures on their own terms. By giving back, we honor the cultures and people who have stewarded these plants for generations.
